A moment of reflection3/4/2024 I have been working as a lecturer at one of the conservatories in China for nearly three years since the pandemic began in 2021.
During this time, I have gained valuable teaching and administrative experience within educational institutions. This experience has drives me to reflect on my academic journey, share my knowledge, develop my own teaching methods and improve my soft skills. However, I have also encountered challenges, including a strong reverse culture shock and uncertainties regarding my personal career plan. Due to the pandemic, cultural communication and cultural collaborations, such as those involved in my previous projects in the UK, have been postponed indefinitely. As a result, I have had to shift my focus to my role as an educator while also exploring new creative avenues. This change has left me feeling anxious at times. As of February 2023, the music market and business have started to recovery from the pandemic in China. However, the post-pandemic landscape presents new challenges and uncertainties, leading to feelings of isolation due to information lag and asymmetry. Despite these challenges, I am actively considering and planning for my further career stage beyond the current place. Fortunately, over the past two years, I have had the opportunity to work with young musicians and contemporary ensembles in China. Through workshops and collaborations, I have been able to refresh my composition techniques and ideas, resulting in the creation of new pieces. Additionally, I am excited to present my research at a conference in Vienna this June. As I continue to navigate my music journey in 2024, I remain open to new opportunities and experiences.
